Creators Hour (Or Creators Question Time as it was orginal known) started in [[round 2]] and became an integral part of [[Planetarion]] culture. Here was your chance to get answers to questions directly from [[Spinner]], [[Vish]], [[Fudge]], [[Zeus]], [[Messiah]] and later on [[Oreo]] and [[PATeam]] as well as a place to put forward any ideas you had directly to the creators. While most of the questions and the responces were fairly unintresting it would throw up some intresting comments, ideas and future plans.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Since [[Jolt]] took over the running of the game these &#039;Q&amp;amp;A&#039; sessions have become less frequent and the information coming out of them has become less informative.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
&#039;Creators Hour&#039; was brought back after Round 14. One of the PA Team members poste dthe IRC log of &#039;that Creators Hour&#039;, but I can&#039;t seen to find the durn post. If someone else can, please edit this page to add the link...&lt;br /&gt;

Heres a summary of some of the more intresting aspects of the very first creators hour&lt;br /&gt;

 &amp;lt;Messiah&amp;gt; What is your status on the GDF? When will the GC have control over it? And how much &lt;br /&gt;
 &amp;lt;Messiah&amp;gt; control will he actually have?&lt;br /&gt;
 &amp;lt;Spinner&amp;gt; Yes..The GDF has certainly aroused many people&#039;s intrest&lt;br /&gt;
 &amp;lt;Spinner&amp;gt; We have ot been able to do any work on the GDF yet, as of controloling it&lt;br /&gt;
 &amp;lt;Spinner&amp;gt; SO an exact date when this is possible, I can not give here&lt;br /&gt;
 &amp;lt;Spinner&amp;gt; But...&lt;br /&gt;
 &amp;lt;Spinner&amp;gt; When it is in, it will be possible for the GC to launch it out on missions, attack or  &lt;br /&gt;
           defend, as a regular fleet&lt;br /&gt;
 &amp;lt;Spinner&amp;gt; Except it would require some kind of &amp;quot;GO&amp;quot; from either planets, or pherhaps some new &lt;br /&gt;
           minister.....&lt;br /&gt;
 &amp;lt;Spinner&amp;gt; So it can not be abused for the GC&#039;s own egotripping (-:&lt;br /&gt;
 &amp;lt;Spinner&amp;gt; The launchcost will then be taken out of the Development Fund&lt;br /&gt;
 &amp;lt;Spinner&amp;gt; If there is not enough Eonium in there...it can not launch&lt;br /&gt;
 &amp;lt;Messiah&amp;gt; Some people are concerned that it can be used for transferring fleets with no travel &lt;br /&gt;
 &amp;lt;Messiah&amp;gt; time. Will this be the case?&lt;br /&gt;
 &amp;lt;Spinner&amp;gt; Note that I said nothing about the GC being able to transfer ships out from the GDF&lt;br /&gt;

One of the most hotly talked about features of [[Round 2]] was the [[Galaxy Defence Fleet]] which was initially unfinished. The basic premise as you have probally guessed was that galaxy members could donate [[ships]] to this [[fleet]] and they would then be under the control of the [[GC]] to use in galactic defence. Due to the fact the the [[GC]] couldnt yet control the [[GDF]] the fleets in it were initially equally spread across all the planets in the [[Galaxy]]. While an idea that had promise the inability of the [[Creators]] to find a viable way to let the [[GC]] control the [[fleet]] resulted in it never getting beyond this basic stage and by [[round 3]] it had dissapeared for good&lt;br /&gt;

In these early days the demand outsripped teh supply and during busy periods the server would frequently serve up the infamous [[Burp]] error page. It was a constant struggle for the Creators to stay ahead of the demand and it wouldnt be until Round 3 when [[Barrysworld]] took over the hosting of the game that a stable and reliable PA became a true possability.&lt;br /&gt;

Something thats all too often hindered [[Planetarion]] has been lack or forsight and heres a prime example. Just two rounds later the [[Creators]] would announce that the game was going P2P which caused uproar amongst players who remembered comments like this. Just 4 rounds after going P2P [[Planetarion]] would then be sold off to [[Jolt]] after [[Fifth Seasons]] went bankrupt.&lt;br /&gt;

If theres one thing we all learn from these statements its never make bold claims, while things may look rosy now you never know what the future brings&lt;br /&gt;

           phones to make their own thing, designed for non-WAP phones.&lt;br /&gt;

While the WAP feature would make an appearance in round 3 and would remain until the bot stopper made WAP access impossible the intresting part here is the SMS feature. SMS alerts were a regular request on the suggestions forum at this time as it was seen as a feature that would help those who couldnt be at a PC 24/7 as well as being a source of income for the game. However mid way through round 3 when the [[Creators]] announced they had a SMS feature ready to launch a bakclash against the idea started. Why this backlash happened no-one is too sure, perhaps they just didnt understand the implementation correctly or maybe they didnt want their advantage of WAP or 24/7 net conenction access removed, either way it scuppered the whole idea.&lt;br /&gt;

=== Galaxy Exiles ===&lt;br /&gt;

 &amp;lt;Messiah&amp;gt; Are there any plans to implement the &amp;quot;boot&amp;quot; function in the galaxy, where the GC can &lt;br /&gt;
           nominate someone to be kicked out of the galaxy?&lt;br /&gt;
 &amp;lt;Spinner&amp;gt; Ah, yes, the booting thing&lt;br /&gt;
 &amp;lt;Spinner&amp;gt; We decided against it the last time, as the poeple asked to share their opinions on the &lt;br /&gt;
           boards were split indeed.&lt;br /&gt;

 &amp;lt;Spinner&amp;gt; We see that some galaxies would definately benefit from soemthing like this, so it might &lt;br /&gt;
           go back onto our to-do list again. But right now, I dont know&lt;br /&gt;

When it comes to galazies we have it easy today. If a galaxy member isnt pulling their weight or they are in a rival alliance you can exile them and hopefully get a more suitable replacement but back in Round 1 and 2 things were different. You got your random galaxy and it was upto you to ensure you got the best out of it, there was little room for rivalries and you just had to shut up and get on with working together. However as we can see here the thinking behind this was starting to be thought about and it wouldnt be long before exiling of planets was a possability.&lt;br /&gt;

The generally view of the community is that the length of a round has always been around the 3 month mark BUT this wasnt the case. Round 1 had run from Feb 2000 until June 2000 with Round 2 lasting around the same length of time. Rounds this long however became unsubstainable later on, especially after [[P2P]] which saw them shrinking to the kind of lengths we have now&lt;br /&gt;

In the early rounds if you wanted to run a site like [[Pilkara]] or [[Sandmans]] your only method of gathering the data was through a use of a Data Miner bot. The likes of [[Sn0w]] and [[Tahmer]] would create a seperate account and set their bot to login to this acocunt and parse all the galaxy pages. This data would then be stored and could then be used by their tools. The two most famous tools at the time were [[SnOws]] IRC bot [[PBOT]] and [[Tahmers]] website. The amount of bandwith these bots and others like them took to gather the data forced the [[Creators]] to start producing the database dumps that all tools today run off&lt;br /&gt;

Heres a summary of some of the creators hour that took place just after [[Barrysworld]], the compnay that was hosting [[Planetarion]] had announced it was folding&lt;br /&gt;

 &amp;lt;Messiah&amp;gt; What type of server are you after? You could try the likes of Yahoo. They&#039;re always up for stuff like this and ahve ercently been buying all sort of new web-projects.&lt;br /&gt;

 &amp;lt;Spinner&amp;gt; first of all, we need 7-8 machines&lt;br /&gt;

While these server requirements may seem like overkill by todays standards at this point the game had a total of around 130k players and was growing at a steady rate. In the end the servers moved to [[Chello]] who while providing a fairly good service never quite reached the level of service that [[Barrysworld]] provided.&lt;br /&gt;

Its intresting how something that was considered dangerous at this time would pop up later. In [[Round 10]] [[Spinner]] experimented with this exact same principle when he only released the very basic Stats and Forumulas to the community. He should probally have stuck to his gut instict that he had then as It was shown to be something that didnt work in a game like this&lt;br /&gt;

The prizes were supplied by [[TheSlammer.com]] a company who would later become affectionatly known as [[TheScammer.com]] after the PS2 incident. They ran a referal scheme with [[Planetarion]] to offer players the ability to purchase half price PS2&#039;s, all you had to do was purchase the PS2 from them at the market price on upon receiveing the unit you could claim half the cost back using the supplied cashback form. However most people either didnt receive their PS2, or their cashback form and even if they received both very few got their money back. [[TheSlammer]] then pulled a dissappearing act leaving many players out of pocket. It will be no suprise to you to hear that most of the prizes for winners didnt turn up.&lt;br /&gt;

Here was your chance to get answers to questions directly from [[Spinner]], [[Vish]], [[Fudge]], [[Zeus]], [[Messiah]] and later on [[Oreo]] and [[PATeam]] as well as a place to put forward any ideas you had directly to the creators. While most of the questions and the responces were fairly unintresting it would throw up some intresting comments, ideas and future plans.&lt;br /&gt;

Since [[Jolt]] took over the running of the game these &#039;Q&amp;amp;A&#039; sessions have become less frequent and the information coming out of them has become less informative.&lt;br /&gt;

One of the most hotly talked about features of [[Round 2]] was the [[Galaxy Defence Fleet]] which was initially unfinished. The basic premise as you have probally guessed was that galaxy members could donate [[ships]] to this [[fleet]] and they would then be under the control of the [[GC]] to use in galactic defence. Due to the fact the the [[GC]] couldnt yet control the [[GDF]] the fleets in it were initially equally spread across all the planets in the [[Galaxy]]. While an idea that had promise the inability of the [[Creators]] to find a viable way to let the [[GC]] control the [[fleet]] resulted in it never getting beyond this basic stage and by [[round 3]] it had dissapeared for good&lt;br /&gt;

In these early days the demand outsripped teh supply and during busy periods the server would frequently serve up the infamous [[Burp]] error page. It was a constant struggle for the Creators to stay ahead of the demand and it wouldnt be until Round 3 when [[Barrysworld]] took over the hosting of the game that a stable and reliable PA became a true possability.&lt;br /&gt;

Something thats all too often hindered [[Planetarion]] has been lack or forsight and heres a prime example. Just two rounds later the [[Creators]] would announce that the game was going P2P which caused uproar amongst players who remembered comments like this. Just 4 rounds after going P2P [[Planetarion]] would then be sold off to [[Jolt]] after [[Fifth Seasons]] went bankrupt.&lt;br /&gt;

If theres one thing we all learn from these statements its never make bold claims, while things may look rosy now you never know what the future brings&lt;br /&gt;

While the WAP feature would make an appearance in round 3 and would remain until the bot stopper made WAP access impossible the intresting part here is the SMS feature. SMS alerts were a regular request on the suggestions forum at this time as it was seen as a feature that would help those who couldnt be at a PC 24/7 as well as being a source of income for the game. However mid way through round 3 when the [[Creators]] announced they had a SMS feature ready to launch a bakclash against the idea started. Why this backlash happened no-one is too sure, perhaps they just didnt understand the implementation correctly or maybe they didnt want their advantage of WAP or 24/7 net conenction access removed, either way it scuppered the whole idea.&lt;br /&gt;

When it comes to galazies we have it easy today. If a galaxy member isnt pulling their weight or they are in a rival alliance you can exile them and hopefully get a more suitable replacement but back in Round 1 and 2 things were different. You got your random galaxy and it was upto you to ensure you got the best out of it, there was little room for rivalries and you just had to shut up and get on with working together. However as we can see here the thinking behind this was starting to be thought about and it wouldnt be long before exiling of planets was a possability.&lt;br /&gt;

The generally view of the community is that the length of a round has always been around the 3 month mark BUT this wasnt the case. Round 1 had run from Feb 2000 until June 2000 with Round 2 lasting around the same length of time. In the early rounds if you wanted to run a site like [[Pilkara]] or [[Sandmans]] your only method of gathering the data was through a use of a Data Miner bot. The likes of [[Sn0w]] and [[Tahmer]] would create a seperate account and set their bot to login to this acocunt and parse all the galaxy pages. This data would then be stored and could then be used by their tools. The two most famous tools at the time were [[SnOws]] IRC bot [[PBOT]] and [[Tahmers]] website. While these server requirements may seem like overkill by todays standards at this point the game had a total of around 130k players and was growing at a steady rate. They ran a referal scheme with [[Planetarion]] to offer players the ability to purchase half price PS2&#039;s, all you had to do was purchase the PS2 from them at the market price on upon receiveing the unit you could claim half the cost back using the supplied cashback form. However most people either didnt receive their PS2, or their cashback form and even if they received both very few got their money back. [[TheSlammer]] then pulled a dissappearing act leaving many players out of pocket. It will be no suprise to you to hear that most of the prizes for winners didnt turn up.&lt;br /&gt;

This round for us was supposed to be a tryout round. Our target was to build a solid memberbase for the upcoming rounds which did involve a lot of tryout in both command and members. Starting with 35 members into the round we did a lot of recruitment - overall appx. 120 players have been in our rows throughout the round - 78 finished it.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
In the final rankings we finished at position 5 - which was far beyond our expectations. Partially supported by numerous alliances disbanding/merging but mainly because we were able to put a decent fight till the end, outgrowing the averages of several alliances within the last 2 weeks.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
On the political side we remained without any naps or allies throughout the round.&lt;br /&gt;

In [[Planetarion]] you compete with thousands of other players over a 2 month period of non-stop gaming. Activity, skill, endurance and a solid [[alliance]] are the building blocks of a winner in this game. Use of [[IRC]], while not a required to play the game, is necessary to communicate between other players and to succeed in the game.&lt;br /&gt;

At the beginning you construct [[structures]] and initiate [[asteroids]] that orbit your planet to gain resources. With these [[resource|resources]] you are able to construct 6 different [[Ship_Class|classes of ship]]. Two classes are capable of [[Pods|stealing asteroids]] from enemy planets while another is capable of bombarding enemy planets ruthlessly destroying their [[structure]]s. &lt;br /&gt;
There are 4 [[race]]s to choose from each equipped with 12 unique ships. &lt;br /&gt;

Planets are ranked by their [[score]]. The planet with the highest score wins the game.&lt;br /&gt;

SO far, we have had galaxy fuinds overflow, negative scores, the end of an official round, been hacked, been DoS-attacked (abot 1000 machines out there attacking us), me and my wife had an aniversary, still not gotten paid and Vish has been ill all week......&lt;br /&gt;

Round 5 is notable as the first round that was pay-to-play. As such, it saw a dramatic cut in planet numbers, from around 200,000 to about 20,000. This number fell even further in subsequent rounds.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
The round began as a contest between [[nocex]] and [[WTFLE]], but nocex was defeated in record time, leaving the remaining five alliances with little to do. [[BlueTuba]] folded, while [[Fury]] and [[Legion]] cross-roided eachother&#039;s allies (Fury hitting [[Elysium]] and Legion hitting [[Wolfpack]]). Round 5 was considered by many to be a weak round.&lt;br /&gt;

The oppositions were clear from the beginning: [[NoCex]] &amp;amp; [[GMT]] vs [[WTF]] &amp;amp; [[VE]]. On the paper it looked like a setup for a nice round. Pitifully it did not work out that way. Almost all Coordinates of NoCex/GMT were made public, all participating Alliances tagged [NP]. After a few days it became obvious that the war was lost for them, their galaxies dropped in score and size and out of the ranking list, the cooperation between those alliances first crumbled and then was destroyed totally. The war was lost pretty fast. The reasons for this were the member coordinate lists being made public, boredom grew and some ToT members found something was lacking. Fury and Legion tried to revive the suspense by declaring wars. [[Fury]] against [[Elysium]], Legion against Ni! and WPO, but i doubt that this was of any use.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Round 5 was a very succesful round for [[ToT]]. Because we tagged ToT immediately after NP tagged, we became well known in the universe. Some members feared that this early tagging would get us additional incomings, but their fears amounted to nothing. In fact almost all ToT galaxies were in top 250 at end of round 5, some members achieved Top 100 spots in players rankings. The tot High Command is very proud with that result and our members. We are looking forward to top that in round 6. We have maintained our old alliances and also formed new alliances for that purpose which will be valid in round 6.&lt;br /&gt;

Legion and Fury dominated this round and, as a result, the two sat rather idly. &lt;br /&gt;

Well to be totally honest not a huge amount, but it has been made somewhat more polished than it was before. Gone are the useless GDF (Galactic Defence Force), and the not so useless MOD (Minister of Development). You can no longer see if people in other galaxies are logged in or not. Travel times have been tweaked again and are now a mixture of first round and second round travel times. We now have swanky new graphics, Planetarion is hosted on a new server and we also have a couple of other small tweaks to the game that are generally speaking nice touches.&lt;br /&gt;

&lt;br /&gt;
GC and MOC have the same abilities as before, and now that the out of cluster travel time increase has been put back in the MOC&#039;s are going to be invaluable in helping the Cluster stand together as one.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
With the loss of the MOD everyone in the galaxy now has the ability to donate resources to each other. This is a excellent idea no longer do we have to wait for the MOD to come online to action our trades, and we know for a fact that the resources we send are going where we want then to, not being embezzled by a crafty MOD.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
You can no longer see if people in other galaxies are logged in or not. This is also a great idea and really makes you think about your attacks now instead of waiting till somebody logs off and gang banging them. Of course I&#039;m sure you could still work out their playing patterns with a series of news scans to see when they launch their fleets, and then try and guess when they are offline. Another option is to try and bribe a member of the galaxy you want to attack and get them to give you information of people who are logged in, and when they log in but beware, they could always betray you. All in all the removal of the logged in indicator makes it much harder to plan a successful sneak attack, and in my opinion adds greatly to the tactical aspect of the game.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
[[Planetarion]] has also had a bit of a face-lift in the graphics department. It now has all new swanky pictures, and curved ergonomic buttons for you to click away at if you wish to look at your news or mail. Another nice touch is the ability for your MOC or GC to set a galactic message that will show up on your overview screen so that you can send a message to those people that don&#039;t think to check the politics board.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
The resources screen has also been tweaked and is now a mixture between the round 1 and round 2 screens. You can still choose what sort of asteroid to initiate, and now you can initiate more than 1 at a time, but the costs for aseroids have increased and are currently at the same sort of level as they were at in round 1.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Finally you can now see your galaxies score on your galaxy screen just after the name of your galaxy. This is a nice touch it gives you and idea of how well your galaxy is doing compared to the rest in the top 100.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
====Combat====&lt;br /&gt;

The ships have been tweaked and I have heard quite a lot of people complaining that they cannot defend against Astropods now, and there have been shouts that the game has become imbalanced. From my experience there are no problems with game balance in this round, and if you have built the correct sort of ships to defend against Astropods you will have no problems at all.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
[[Thieves and Pirates]] have been removed for this round and I have to say I think it was the correct thing to do, the game has much better balance and you now have to work for your score by pulling off successful attacks instead of building tons of thieves and going fleet hunting. The only problem with the removal of these ships is that there is now no real incentive to help people defend their planet. Before you had the promise of some nice fleet to capture, as a reward for your good deed, now there is nothing. Something I think that the creators should implement is a Salvage Ship. This ship could act like a Cargo Ship by collecting resources from the destroyed ships at the end of each battle tick with a limit of say 500 units of resources as opposed to the cargo ships 1000. You could then have every ship that is destroyed leave say 1% of its construction value in available salvage for your salvage ships to collect. This could well give something back to all those defenders out there without hugely unbalancing the game like the Thieves and Pirates did. 1% does not sound like a lot of resources for the ships to drop but put in perspective every interceptor destroyed would leave 10 metal, and you will normally lose quite a few of those in a fair sized battle.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
&#039;&#039;&#039;Travel times&#039;&#039;&#039; have been tweaked again and this round it takes you longer to travel outside of your cluster, as well as taking longer to travel outside of your galaxy. This again is a good decision in my opinion, you have now solved a lot of the problems with huge cluster spanning alliance because people simply cannot get there in time to defend each other as well as they can defend people within their own cluster, making the large alliance less desireable and the cluster alliance a much better looking alternative. With the new travel times Cluster alliances are going to be the big powers once again and I think the most organised cluster will be have almost all the people in the top10 by the end of this round, but we shall have to wait and see if I am right.&lt;br /&gt;

All in all Planetarion is at the stage I thought it would be after the first round. We basically have a slightly tweaked 1st round Planetarion with a more stable server and the ability to communicate with people that you have always wanted. Unfortunatly the server does still have problems, it seems to not let people log in all the time, a problem which the creators are working hard to fix, on the plus side though the ticker seems to be going strong this round. Overall I am very impressed with this round its simple effective, and is going to be great fun.&lt;br /&gt;
