The buddypack system involves a select number of players, usually 4 to 8, choosing to form a "buddypack". Members in the same buddypack join the same galaxy after the shuffle.
Depending on the mechanics that are in play during the round, the galaxy may be filled up by a number of random planets or may continue to play the round as a private galaxy.
The system was first introduced in the first round of PAX, round 10.
