PDS

PDS stands for Planet Defense System. These are turrets which can't go away from your planet or can be turned off. Because of this people often don't like to build this because when it is not possible to defend you can not move them away so they will be crushed. Though they are more powerful than ships and there are people who make a fortress out of this. A good example of this is in round 3 when there was a galaxy owned by ICD 5:25 PDS Outpost which was PDS hogged. Though they could afford a high roid ratio due to the massive losses attackers would suffer because of the PDS. Even if PDS cannot be moved away, in the end when players have to much eonium spare they will start building PDS to use eonium and gain extra score.
