Fence galaxy

Fence or fenced galaxies are galaxies that contain planets from many different alliances.

The strategy is used because many alliances will not raid galaxies with one or more of their own members in it. This can significantly reduce the amount of incomings during peace time. It is considered much less efficient during war time, because alliances will often switch to planet targetting, causing them to pay much less regard to the other people in the galaxy.

Method

Though they are sometimes created by accident, for the most part, fence galaxies are set up before the round starts. During rounds with buddy packs, the random additions to the galaxy are often already quite fenced, so there's not usually a lot to improve. However, sometimes people will switch alliance mid-round to improve the fence of a galaxy by adding a member of another alliance to it.

Success

Throughout the PAX era, fencing has frequently been a very successful policy, especially when highly ranked members of high ranking alliances took part in one. A large number of the rounds from 10 to 26 were won by fence galaxies (a notable exception being round 19) and even after the advent of the widespread use of core galaxies, fence galaxies continued to be a force to be reckoned with.
