Governments were introduced in Round 21 alongside population, replacing engineering. There are currently five unique governments.

Choosing a government allows you to prioritize certain fields over others, but unlike with population, which can be altered at will, these settings are permanent and will last the rest of the round. A government must be chosen within the first 168 ticks of your planet, before protection ends.

History

From inception until round 34, the 4 government types were democracy, feudalism, dictatorship and unification.

Properties

Governments were given a makeover in round 35. Only democracy stayed as a government, while four new types were added to replace the old ones.

Corporatism

A corporate government increases income at the expense of sacrifices in the areas of security, research and construction.

  • Mining output is 22% higher.
  • Research is 17% slower.
  • Construction is 10% slower.
  • Alert is 15% lower.

Democracy

Under a democracy, the planet benefits from cheaper and quicker production of ships and an impressive research bonus, at the expense of slightly weaker planet security.

  • Research is 40% faster.
  • Production cost is 7% lower.
  • Stealth is 10% higher.
  • Alert is 10% lower.

Nationalism

A nationalist government has impressively high natural alertness combined with enviable income bonuses and a small research bonus. This comes at the expense of slower production of ships and a painfully slow construction rate.

  • Mining output is 15% higher.
  • Research is 10% faster.
  • Construction is 20% slower.
  • Production time is 10% slower.
  • Alert is 25% higher.

Socialism

A socialist government has moderate bonuses in mining, construction, production time and stealth for the benefit of all.

  • Mining output is 10% higher.
  • Construction is 20% faster.
  • Production time is 10% faster.
  • Stealth is 10% higher.

Totalitarianism

Totalitarianist governments allow planets to build constructions at an high rate, as well as benefit from a discount on ship costs and a better than average alert rate. However, the research rate is surpassed by most other governments.

  • Research is 5% slower.
  • Construction is 25% faster.
  • Production cost is 8% lower.
  • Production time is 10% slower.
  • Alert is 10% higher.
