Newbie bashing is the term used to describe hitting someone significantly smaller than yourself with a fleet that's disproportionately large.
The game limits targets one can attack to 40% of own value. Though in previous rounds it used to be different. The score cap of 20% has been introduced in round 5 while in later stage it has been raised to 40%. Though big planets often evade this cap by not spending their resources which would add score. This way they appear to be smaller then they could be which gives them a chance to hit smaller planets.
