If you can only watch it once, it's a problem (I feel the same way). I can't even count how many times I've wacehtd the videos for Breathing or Running Up that Hill. Of course she can do what she wants, but I was a bit surprised to see such a literal interpretation, although now that I think of it, I was surprised at how literal and unimaginative her Deeper Understanding piece was, too. Not everyone is good at everything. I am a filmmaker and as such, contribute to my sound design and soundtracks, but am hardly a genius in the studio. For excellence in that area I rely on others. I think a filmmaker would have dealt with the basic idea of this very differently.

The 1920 s and 1930 s were eras of great affluence and Hunt does a good job at exopnrilg the pros and cons of such a shift in values.  Hunt states that,  Self-gratification became the new touchstone for the good life, in place of thrift, social virtue, or religious morality.    This was achieved through the pursuit of attaining material goods where this consumerism pattern (cars, furniture, and fashion) was soon exported around the world through the means of Hollywood films. I particularly found the example that Hunt used to exemplify his point of the Italians of Southern Italy very interesting. During the 1930 s,  Italians became so consumed to American culture through films, that they knew more about New York than Rome. This lead to the image of the United States being a country of dreams and fairy tales where anything was possible.  As Hunt characterizes these films as acting,  silent salesmen of American goods.  I found this very intriguing as I did not know films at this time were so influential in exporting American culture to the world.

If you can only watch it once, it's a problem (I feel the same way). I can't even count how many times I've wacehtd the videos for Breathing or Running Up that Hill. Not everyone is good at everything. I am a filmmaker and as such, contribute to my sound design and soundtracks, but am hardly a genius in the studio. For excellence in that area I rely on others.
