In all rounds of Planetarion there have been six ship classes (except in Round 10 where there were no corvettes or destroyers). A ship class is a type of ships that may be built when a certain technology has been researched. (Currently, one tech gives you access to FI/CO, the next gives you access to FR/DE, and the final one gives you access to CR/BS.)
A ships's travel time is also indicated by its class. Currently, FI/CO has an ETA of 12, FR/DE has an ETA of 13, and CR/BS has an ETA of 14.
