HEROES

HEROES is a non-traditional troll alliance that first started playing Planetarion when Ascendancy finally left the stage sometime around round 70, but didn't become a fixture of the PA alliance landscape until round 83. It is primarily composed of ex-Ascendancy and ex-ROCK players, those groups themselves having significant overlap between them.
Heroes' stated goal is causing as much resentment among the rest of the playerbase as possible, partially through ingame actions like fleetcatches and abuse of game mechanics, but also outside of the game, through trolling and spreading toxic propaganda. As often as not, though, their actions result in emo in their own ranks, which makes HEROES a less than effective fighting force in most rounds.
They have also taken a stance against cheating, especially in their early rounds, using their lack of interest in finishing high on the rankings to suicidally crash on players they consider cheaters, thus (sometimes) preventing them from speaking in the End of Round Ceremony.
During the 90s, a schism occurred, causing a small portion of the core players to split off to play elsewhere. Amazingly, this appears to have cooled tensions somewhat; little post-split conflict has been recorded.
