A tick is a turn in Planetarion. Everything happens - progresses, through ticks. The real-life counterpart to ticks is actual time. A tick (normally) occurs once every 1 hour (beginning at xx:00:00). After a tick occurs, one tick is deducted from every activity - whether fleet launch, research or construction in the game, and resources are updated, battles commence "during the tick".
Ticks may occur more often, for example during speedgames or havoc.
