A tick is a turn in Planetarion. Everything happens through ticks. Ship production, building construction, and research progress. Fleets move closer to their targets. Resources are added. Everything.
The real-life counterpart to ticks is actual time. A tick (normally) occurs once every hour, on the hour. Battles occur "during the tick".
Ticks may occur more often, for example during speedgames or havoc. (For example, there were 15-minute ticks during the Round 13 Havoc.)
