Round Summary

Round 30 began with the early targetting of the victorious alliance of the previous two rounds, Ascendancy, by Conspiracy Theory and Omen. Concentrated in a number of galaxies and initially undersized Ascendancy recruited heavily during the round and began to move back into contention as CT's targetting shifted. A protracted war between Asc, napped to Rock and CT, and Omen, allied with Vengeance, ensued, broken up by a brief 1 week period when both alliances avoided each other in order to gain roids and decrease the gap held by the then top alliance, CT. Eventually as Ascendancy appeared to defeat Omen the other top five alliances, CT, NewDawn, Omen and Vengeance combined to hit Ascendancy, leading in turn to this ultimatum from Asc which was made public on Alliance Discussions. This situation only lasted for a few days as ND decided to withdraw in order to better pursue their own chances of attaining the #1 ranking.

In turn this led to increased hostility between ND and the other alliances with ND and Ascendancy targetting the others leading to ND rising into first place and Ascendancy to second. ND then attacked Ascendancy in an attempt to win the round but despite assistance, albeit half-hearted, from VGN, Omen and DLR Ascendancy were able to overtake ND and win their third round in a row. Throughout this round crashing had a huge impact with Asc's superior ability to conserve their ships proving vital. Equally many of the crashes on Asc planets led to their high numbers of Zikonian planets gaining large fleets, many gaining further by virtue of using feudal governments.
