Round Summary
Round 34 began with what was perceived as a very open playing field. The two alliances which had dominated the preceding rounds, Apprime and Ascendancy, were both well below the tag limit and there were questions over the strength and resilience of slightly larger alliances such as NewDawn, Conspiracy Theory, and the re-emerging Subh. Initially Subh rose towards the #1 ranking, however Apprime, concentrated in select fortress galaxies, accumulated a large average roid lead and built up value. A temporary co-operation of ND, CT, DLR, Euphoria and Subh roided all their core galaxies in one night but a longer-term conflict emerged between DLR/Euphoria and Apprime. Subh, concerned over the growth of Ascendancy, who had remained roughly unaligned, co-operated with DLR/Euphoria in exchange for help with Ascendancy later on. This led to a situation developing with blocks of ND/CT/DLR/Subh/Euphoria on one side and Ascendancy/Apprime and slightly later on Vision on the other. The Subh etc block, consisting of weaker players on the whole, crashed a large number of fleets on Apprime and Ascendancy planets and due to various problems with crashes and members leaving Subh lost their #1 spot. Initially Ascendancy held onto the #1 ranking over ND and Apprime but Apprime were better able to gain roids and hold their own. This was also due to the fact that Ascendancy was on the receiving end of the attacks of the block, who in contrast to previous rounds kept on attacking and kept on attacking Ascendancy. This made Ascendancy almost unable to roid and made Apprime move past Ascendancy into the #1 ranking to claim their second round win.
