In all rounds of [[Planetarion]] there have been six '''ship classes''' (except in [[Round 10]] where there were no corvettes or destroyers).
A ship class is a type of ships that may be built when a certain [[Research|technology]] has been researched. (Currently, one tech gives you access to FI/CO, the next gives you access to FR/DE, and the final one gives you access to CR/BS.)
 
A ships's [[travel time]] is also indicated by its class. Currently, FI/CO has an ETA of 12, FR/DE has an ETA of 13, and CR/BS has an ETA of 14. If there are multiple ship classes in a fleet, the fleet's ETA is determined by the slowest class. (The ETAs above may be reduced through 'ETA research', and fleet ETA is lowered by 1 when you are defending an alliance mate.)
