Round Details

Changes since R10.

These changes include a new Vacation time option, 16 new ships and 2 new ship classes, changes to all ship attributes, a tweaking of the technology tree, an extension to the protection time for all planets (now three days) and numerous fixes that should ensure a trouble free gaming experience. One major difference for this round is that you can now only play alongside a couple of old friends in otherwise random galaxies, which is intended to prevent the power blocking of the many large alliances that participate in Planetarion universe. -- PCGamerWorld

Round Summary

Moving into Round 11 the single largest change to the political shape of the game was the announcement by Sid of the creation of 1up. Perhaps the most significant addition to the game since the creation of the oldest alliances in Round 2 1up were to go on to become a contending alliance in every round they played. With an experienced command staff, largely from Fury, and top members from such alliances as Fury, Legion, Titans and LDK it was obvious from the start that they were the favourites for the round to come. Other noteworthy alliances in contention this round were MISTU, FAnG, winners of the previous round, LCH and Vision, while Elysium disbanded pre-round.

Both 1up and LCH got off to good starts with 1up claiming the #1 spot from the first days of the round. All alliances at this early stage were content merely to gather roids as best they could without out-and-out targeting of other alliances. A little over 2 weeks into the round MISTU received a large boost as Phraktos disbanded, kicking most of their playerbase and merging into MISTU's tag moving them into the #3 spot. A few days after this MISTU, FAnG and ROCK began to hit 1up on a joint basis, after a "cold war" of sorts had been brewing over the previous few days, something which Sid announced on the forums. Massive incomings on 1up stripped them of their roid lead and LCH surged ahead here. However despite this attempt 1up remained fighting fit and in excellent shape to win the round.

With both FAnG and MISTU, losing key HC, suffering internal problems they struggled to slow down 1up and lost focus while trying to get themselves back into shape. After this 1up were free to concentrate on their closest opposition, LCH. 1up's superior activity and experience was really beginning to take a toll on their opponents who were unable to match them 1 on 1. Additionally the vast majority of 1up planets had picked the Xandathrii race, making them problematic to target fully. 1up had by now NAPed ND but other alliances worked together to try and take down 1up. Vision attempted to help LCH target them, along with the best efforts of the earlier mentioned alliances, but 1up's reputation, and the fear factor they managed to create, hampered any efforts to seriously take them down. Many top planets within other alliances accepted planet NAPs with 1up, notably including Porno, a Vision HC, and defectors from a number of alliances such as MISTU and Vision joined 1up.

1up's momentum had, by this stage of the round, some 7 weeks in, assumed runaway proportions. The attempted block against them lost activity and fell away badly. With time to spare 1up had fulfilled most people's predictions and convincingly won the round. They went on to clean the top planet ranks of hostile planets and by the end of the round had produced what was probably the first dominating win by a single alliance in Planetarion history. The winner of this round was cheerios of 1up and the #1 galaxy was 21:1, primarily a 1up/LCH galaxy (albeit that their non-1up planets held their roids due to pNAPs).
